Millenary olive grove and dry-stone walls in the Maestrat

THE MAESTRAT · MEDITERRANEAN

The territory that makes EL POAIG possible.

Farga, dry stone, wind and the work of generations determine the oil that reaches your table.

Farga olive tree in the Maestrat

01 · THE VARIETY

Farga belongs to this place.

EL MIL DEL POAIG comes exclusively from certified millenary Farga olive trees in the Maestrat. Isolated and immense, they produce exceptionally little fruit and grow in limestone soils from sea level to an altitude of 600 metres.

Thanks to the constant work of the people of the Maestrat over the centuries, these millenary Farga trees have survived to the present day and still offer us their fruit.

9 %extraction yield; the industry targets around 20%

EL MIL DEL POAIG has an extraction yield of approximately 9% because only oil of the highest quality is bottled, even from trees that produce a minute quantity of olives. The trees are never forced or subjected to stress: we offer only what nature gives.

02 · A CULTIVATED LANDSCAPE

Dry stone holds the landscape together.

Dry-stone walls organise the plots, retain the soil and make cultivation on slopes possible. Built without mortar, they show how generations of farmers have worked a demanding landscape without erasing it.

The art of dry-stone construction is recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Tree, soil and wall form a single unit of cultivation.

03 · THE ORIGIN OF EL POAIG

EL POAIG was born from the fight for millenary olive trees

Manuel Arnau and Joaquim Solano saw millenary olive trees being uprooted and taken from the landscape that gave them meaning. In 2007 they decided to value their oil, territory and the work of those who had cared for them for centuries.

The idea remains the same today: to protect each tree where it has grown and to value the fruit of its olives.

04 · FROM LANDSCAPE TO TABLE

The territory is understood by experiencing it.

The Maestrat does not end at the olive grove. It lives in its towns, around the table and in its Mediterranean hospitality. EL POAIG experiences let you enter that singular world with those who truly know it.
